As Acting Director of Communications & Marketing at the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC), I led brand and editorial strategy across ISC's racial equity and climate resilience portfolio. My work included directing a creative agency partner on program identities for Dismantling Energy Inequity in Communities of Color (DEICC), Partnership for Resilient Communities (PRC), and Advancing Building Decarbonization (ABD); authoring editorial content for the FY22 Annual Report; partnering with the VP of Development and Communications and the Development Coordinator to produce Centering Equity in Climate Action, ISC's COP27 thought leadership statement; and personally designing strategic visualizations, including ISC's Theory of Change model
The FY22 annual report was the first published annual update that ISC had undertaken since the FY20 report during Covid. This report took a new approach to how ISC presented information — a clear letter from the Board, program highlights and links to where readers could dive deeper for more information. These are a few sample pages of the my writing and editing work.
ISC's Theory of Change visualizes a bottom-up approach to climate equity work, in contrast to the top-down model common across the nonprofit sector: rather than arriving with money and a predetermined solution, ISC starts with a needs assessment — listening to the communities most affected by the climate crisis — then designs and resources programs around what they actually need. I designed this visual model to communicate that bottom-up approach clearly to funders, program partners, and cohort members.
